DOAR is pleased to announce that following nearly four years of litigation and a weeklong jury trial in the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware, a federal jury found that Peloton Interactive infringed NEC Corporation’s patented video streaming technology and awarded NEC $20.5 million in running royalty damages. The case centered on allegations that Peloton’s content streaming services infringed four claims of U.S. Patent No. 8,752,101, a patent directed to adaptive video streaming technology incorporated into devices using Apple and Google video players. The jury found that Peloton directly infringed the asserted claims, rejected Peloton’s invalidity defense, and awarded NEC a running royalty. The verdict represents a significant victory for NEC in the enforcement of its streaming technology patent portfolio.
