DOAR Expands Partnership with John Jay College of Criminal Justice to Advance the Practice of Trial Consulting

September 04, 2025 – New York, NYDOAR, the nation’s leading trial consulting company, today announced an expanded partnership with John Jay College of Criminal Justice in its continued effort to positively impact the future of trial strategy consulting. Already a partner and generous supporter of John Jay’s MA in Forensic Psychology and the Psychology and Law PhD programs, DOAR has added to its investment in advancing the education and practice of trial consulting through a newly established DOAR Trial Consulting Partnership Fund. The Fund will provide graduate students pursuing careers in trial consulting and jury research with an opportunity to develop and hone the skills necessary for success in the industry.

“This partnership represents an exciting step forward to advancing the field of trial strategy consulting into the future,” said Paul Neale, CEO of DOAR. “By fostering the growth of emerging scholars and practitioners, we are helping to ensure that the discipline continues to evolve and meet the challenges of an ever-changing justice system. John Jay’s faculty and graduate programs provide the best path to the success of our mission.”

Key components of the partnership include:

  • Trial consulting workshops, co-hosted by DOAR and John Jay’s Department of Psychology
  • Two annual Samuel H. Solomon Memorial Scholarships, named after DOAR’s founder, with augmented funding first instituted in 2022
  • Research grants to support student-led scholarly inquiry
  • An annual summer internship opportunity for immersive professional development
  • An annual externship for students in the MA in Forensic Psychology Program
  • An annual PhD program colloquium to strengthen the link between scholarship and professional practice in trial consulting

The initiative will be jointly led and in close collaboration between DOAR and faculty liaison Dr. Margaret Bull Kovera, professor of psychology and director of John Jay’s Psychology and Law PhD Program. Dr. Natalie Gordon, a DOAR jury consultant, John Jay College of Criminal Justice alumna, and adjunct professor at John Jay College, will also serve as an important liaison in the partnership program.

“My education at John Jay and my experience conducting jury research for high-stakes matters since joining DOAR give me deep insight into what it means to be successful in the field,” said Dr. Gordon. “As a pioneer in the field of jury research and trial strategy consulting, DOAR is committed to enriching and advancing the field, and this expanded partnership with John Jay will ensure that the next generation of trial consultants is set up for success.”

The initiative is set to launch this academic year during the fall 2025 semester.
